St. George's, Grenada

Our captain disembarked here to meet with his wife and family for a much-needed rest. The new captain came aboard and was just as competent, but a lot funnier. Every time he made an announcement, it was full of humour.

There's just a small area of Grenada which I find "beautiful" enough to want to spend time with my family. Not sure where that Captain is staying...

Hurricane Ike went through this island not long ago and left devastation behind: many houses were without roofs, buildings had crumbled, walls were decrepit. The buildings aren't built as strongly as in Canada, of course, so a lesser wind can really wreak havoc.

We toured a nutmeg factory where there are no more workers because the trees have been devastated by the hurricanes. It takes 15 years for a tree to mature and produce nutmeg and then lives about 40 years, so the whole island is suffering.

There are, however, little pieces of heaven, like the tiny waterfall we found surrounded by lush vegetation and all sorts of animals, including this little monkey.
